Safe. Compassionate. Person-centred.Behaviour Support for Children, Teens, and Adults in Newcastle & Surrounding Communities
Why Behaviour Support Matters
At Nourish Services, we believe behaviour is communication. Every behaviour tells a story, about how someone is feeling, what they need, or what they’re finding difficult in that moment.
When children, young people, and adults feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, or unsafe, behaviours can become their way of expressing distress. Behaviour support isn’t about “fixing” or stopping behaviour, it’s about listening, understanding, and responding in ways that help people feel safe, supported, and capable.
When a person feels genuinely understood and supported, meaningful change becomes possible. With the right guidance, skills, and environment, people can build confidence, develop healthier ways to communicate, and feel more in control of their world.
Our approach focuses on understanding the why behind behaviour and supporting positive, lasting change that improves everyday life at home, in the community, and beyond.
How We Work with Families
We begin by listening
We take time to understand your child or loved one. This includes their experiences, strengths, environment, and what their behaviours may be communicating. There is no judgement. Only curiosity and care.
Understanding your child and what matters most
We make sense of what is happening
Together we explore patterns, triggers, and unmet needs. This helps behaviours feel less confusing and more understandable. For many families this brings relief and reduces stress at home and in the community.
Bringing clarity to behaviour
We create a shared path forward

Turning understanding into practical support
We build skills for regulation and communication
We focus on emotional regulation, coping skills, and functional communication. This supports people to express themselves in ways that feel safer, more effective, and more empowering.

At Nourish Services, we conduct comprehensive assessments that consider the participant’s history, strengths, and context, using behavioural observation, ABC data, stakeholder interviews, and structured tools appropriate to clinical need. Sessions are flexible and responsive, supporting replacement behaviours, emotional regulation, functional communication, daily living skills, and social confidence. Practice between sessions is encouraged to embed skills, increase independence, and ensure sustainable progress.
Training and capacity building is provided for caregivers and support teams to confidently implement plans, understand behaviour function, and maintain consistency. This may include supporting emotional regulation, building predictable environments, and developing skills in communication, social interaction, and daily routines.
Reducing Restrictive Practices
Nourish Services is committed to the prevention, reduction, and elimination of restrictive practices through ethical, evidence-based Positive Behaviour Support. We recognise the significant impact that restrictive practices can have on dignity, autonomy, and wellbeing, and prioritise approaches that promote choice, safety, and skill-building.
Restrictive practices are never used as a first response and are only considered in situations where there is a clear and immediate risk of harm, and all least-restrictive alternatives have been carefully explored and exhausted. Our focus is always on supporting growth, independence, and positive outcomes for the individual.
NDIS-Aligned, Clinically Governed Practice
All Behaviour Support services at Nourish are delivered in line with NDIS Behaviour Support requirements and the Quality and Safeguards Framework, ensuring that every plan is ethical, compliant, and grounded in best-practice evidence. Our clinical governance ensures oversight at every stage, from assessment to implementation and review, so families and referring organisations can be confident in the quality and safety of our support.
Our practitioners are fully qualified, supervised, and supported to deliver interventions that are trauma-informed, least-restrictive, and outcome-focused. Plans are regularly reviewed and updated to remain practical, effective, and aligned with each participant’s needs, while reporting and collaboration with care teams ensures transparency, accountability, and adherence to all NDIS expectations.
